The Mayor is pleased to announce that the public draft of the Unified Development Ordinance or UDO has been released and is available on the city website for review.

The UDO brings together our land use regulations (Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Regulations, Standard Construction Details) and its policy documents (Open Space Master Plan, Complete Streets Policy, and the Urban and Community Forest Master Plan) into a coordinated, user-friendly document consistent with the 2015 Comprehensive Plan.

In an attempt to assist our community in reviewing the new UDO document, we have outlined some guidance to focus attention on Articles which may have particular interest for various readers.

Comments can be submitted directly to the City Planning Staff from the UDO page.  The release of the public draft marks a significant step towards the completion of the City’s first UDO.

The next steps in this project are:
  1. Public comments on the Draft can be submitted through February 7 and will be considered for inclusion into the final version.
  2. Camiros, the City’s consultant, will present and discuss the Draft at the City Council Meeting on January 21 at 7:00 pm.
  3. Three public workshops will be held with Camiros and the City Planning Staff on:
    • January 22 at 2:30 pm, Empire State College, 2 Union Avenue Room 126
    • January 22 at 6:00 pm, Empire State College, 2 Union Avenue Room 126
    • January 23 at 9:00 am, Recreation Center, 15 Vanderbilt Avenue

Looking ahead, the Mayor expects the final version of the UDO, including the text and map, to be released in the Spring for Public Hearings and for Council to receive advisory opinions from the DRC and city and county planning boards.  SEQRA and the Council vote on the long-awaited UDO will be the final steps.
