The November 6, 2018 ballot will contain a referendum with two separate questions about the Saratoga Springs City Charter. The proposed ballot questions are:
- Shall the Saratoga Springs City Charter be amended as proposed by the 2018 Charter Review Commission?
- Shall the Saratoga Springs City Charter be further amended to provide for two (2) additional City Council members whose authority shall be legislative only?
Below are two documents both of which were filed with the City Clerk on September 6, 2018. The first document refers to ballot question #1 and is the 2018 Proposed Charter maintaining the five member City Council with enhanced efficiencies and organizational improvements.
The second document refers to ballot question #2 and is the 2018 Proposed Charter with the enhanced efficiencies and organizational improvements but also increases the City Council to seven members with the two additional members having legislative responsibilities only.
NOTE: The initiative to increase the City Council to seven (7) members requires a separate question as mandated by New York State Law. This initiative cannot be enacted without a “yes” vote on BOTH questions.
