Beginning in 2016 any homeowner who is applying for the first time or a new homeowner, you will be required to register with the Department of Taxation and Finance. You will be able to contact them directly at 518-457-2036 or register online at www.tax.ny.gov. You will NO LONGER file your application with the Assessment Office. ***Please be advised that "first time" application means you have NEVER had any exemptions on your property before.

If you have had BASIC STAR in previous years (on your current property) and will turn 65 before December 31, 2024 you can apply for the Enhanced STAR for 2024 with the Assessment Office. Income limit is less than or equal to $98,700 we require a copy of your 2022 tax return, and copy of your driver's license for proof of age and residency.

Your application will be denied if you do not submit BOTH forms above. The IVP program authorizes the New York State Department of  Taxation and Finance to automatically review your income eligibility each year. This is mandatory not optional. You will NOT need to renew with the Assessment Office yearly.

Senior Citizen Exemption:

***NEW for 2019. You will be required to file for the Enhanced STAR Exemption and Senior Citizen Exemption separately. In the past, you were only required to submit one form to apply for both exemptions. That is no longer the case.

If you are over the age of 65, and under $37,400 for income you may be eligible for additional exemptions. Please contact the Assessment Office for additional details. THIS EXEMPTION MUST BE RENEWED YEARLY WITH THE ASSESSMENT OFFICE. Deadline is March 1st.

Mobile Homes:

Mobile Home owners are eligible to apply for the STAR Credit program. If you are applying for the first time you will be required to register with the Department of Taxation and Finance. You will be able to contact them directly at 518-457-2036 or online at www.tax.ny.gov for more information. You will NO LONGER file your application with the Assessment Office.
