[ARCHIVED] 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

9-11 sculpture

The City of Saratoga Springs invites the community to a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at High Rock Park on Monday September 11, 2017. The ceremony, hosted by Mayor Joanne Yepsen, will be held at the Tempered by Memory sculpture at 8:30 a.m.

The observance begins with a color guard from the SSPD and SSFD, which will enter under the direction of John Betor Lt. Colonel (ret), Assistant Fire Chief (ret).

A moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. will symbolize when the first plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The National Anthem and other music will be provided by Saratoga Springs High School Choraliers. The keynote speech will be delivered by Jim Pabis, US Army Colonel.

Comprised of five pieces of twisted steel from the 2001 terrorist attacks, the Tempered by Memory sculpture was created by Noah Savitz in collaboration with John Van Alstine. A display of original photographs by Lawrence White will also be available for viewing in the park.
