[ARCHIVED] Roof Permits Require Certificate of Compliance - July 1

Beginning July 1, 2021, all reroof permits will now require a Certificate of Compliance (CC) to verify compliance with NYS Building Code.

For the majority of reroof projects, owners and their contractors will be required to schedule two inspections with the building Department when replacing a roof.

• the first inspection is required prior to covering the ice and water barrier

• the building Department may accept an Ice and Water Barrier Affidavit in lieu of this inspection

• a final inspection is required in order to receive the Certificate Of Compliance (CC) and close out the permit

Exceptions to the required inspections based on project scope or materials will be communicated by the building Department during the permit issuance process.  The fee schedule is being revised to remove the refundable roofing certification fee of $100.00.

The revised application can be found on the website.  Please note that the property owner MUST sign in two places on the application.  We will no longer accept the signed contract in lieu of the signature on the application.

The Building Department will conduct the final inspection from the ground on residential projects.  If any issues are identified, the Building Department will require roof access for re-inspection.

Please note that roofing permits open for longer than 45 days (without approved explanation) may prevent the Building Department from issuing further roofing permits to your company.  If circumstances will prevent completing the roofing project within this timeframe, please communicate with the Building Department.
