Skate Park

Subfacility of East Side Rec

Park and Facility Rules

ON DECK Saratoga partners with the Saratoga Spring Recreation Department and Spring Street Gallery to announce a community mural at the Saratoga Springs East Side Recreational Skatepark, Saturday, August 20th from 9am – 11am.

The Saratoga Springs partners are pleased to invite our local and regional community members, skaters, artists, and families to join in a day of art-making at the East Side Recreational Skatepark.

The community-focused art event is a temporary visual addition for the ESRS ramps while we wait for the skatepark upgrade. With direction and support from Benj Gleeksman, ON DECK founder, artist, community member, and skater, we welcome the community to participate in painting the skatepark's metal ramps. The event will feature beverages and snacks for the volunteers. Please email ON DECK to notify us of your interest in joining this project so that we have enough supplies for everyone to take part.

As we continue raising awareness for skateboarding, this event will continue the momentum towards our fundraising goal of just over $5,000 to complete the skatepark upgrade project.

Over the past 10 years, ON DECK has worked towards the goal of getting a modern, fully concrete skatepark installed at the East Side Recreation field, hosting art shows, fundraising events, skateboarding lessons, and free outdoor movies in an effort to raise awareness and support for the local skateboarding community. ON DECK will continue to raise funds above this amount in an effort to help support the upkeep and upgrades to the skatepark in the future.

Donations to the skatepark construction fund can be made on ON DECK’s website, Venmo at @ondecksaratoga, or gofundme If you are interested in volunteering for the mural project or other efforts for the skatepark, please email

The Saratoga Springs East Side Recreational Skatepark (Saratoga Skatepark) is the oldest skatepark in the state. Built in 1989, it has become an east coast skateboarding icon, and many creative legends have spent time there. People such as Johnny Schillereff (founder of Element Skateboards), artist Jeremy Fish and Josh Carter from the band Phantogram all called the skatepark home at various times during their youth. The skatepark’s age has not impacted its popularity, and it is currently more used than ever; On almost any given day all year long, skaters can be found using the skatepark as long as it’s not raining or snowing.

Rain date, Sunday, August 21st.

New Skate Park Design in the Works

Built in 1989, the East Side Recreation (Rec) skatepark is the oldest municipal skatepark in New York State. In conjunction with Jah Skate Shop, which was located at 8 Caroline Street from 1988 until 1993, the skatepark used to host many team demos, spawned a few professional skaters, and in the mid-90's was an official stop for Vans Warped Tour skate contest qualifications. The skatepark is a highly respected piece of East Coast skate history, and its popularity has grown along with the popularity of skateboarding and other wheeled sports.

As its use grows, the skatepark is due for a contemporary upgrade, and plans are in place for a modern, poured-in-place concrete park to replace the metal ramps that have been there for 20 years. The City of Saratoga Springs has proudly partnered with Pillar Skateparks to design the new park, in conjunction with feedback from the local skate community. Construction needs for the park are in the range of $400,000, and donations are being accepted through ON DECK Saratoga, who holds the funds on a tax-exempt basis.

Please consider donating to this much needed and widely supported upgrade at one of the links below.
